CDR
(Cirque Du Rockeil)
June 23-26 2005 in Las Vegas
The
Convention started on Thursday the 23rd.
I arrived around 11 am, and couldn't check into the hotel until
noon. So I went out and got a bite to eat. By the time I
got back I could check in and started meeting other con goers in the
lobby area. The day cumulated with a get together party held in
the Frontier's convention room. After the dance party,
people went
out and did things, ending up at the pool around 3 am. We were
asked by security to keep the noise down, but we could be there as long
as we wanted.
On day 2, Friday, I went out and did some sightseeing and gift shopping
as well as buying the much needed Alcohol for the weekend.
Around 6 pm they opened the convention room
again and had vendor tables
set up. A movie of Mick Rock's interview with Richard O'Brien was
shown. Then there were the pre-shows
interspliced with the
RockyCon clips. After all that was the Shock Treatment costume
contest and the showing of Shocky with
an All-Star cast. As the
show ended people made their way around to various party rooms and of
course the pool. Once again security was great, they didn't
break
up any parties that I was at, even though the party was going on from
the elevator bank to the back of the building in the hallway.
On day 2, Saturday, we all found our way to the Cashman Convention
Center. This is the same theater that held the Rocky Con on the
the 25th before going to the Hard Rock. Because of the convention
center staffing problems everything was 2 hrs late. Eventually we
got started with the Mick Rock interview and his shameless plugging of
his new book coming out. From there all us non-cast people were
sent out of the theater to wait for the costume contest. All I
can say about the contest was I am glad I wasn't a judge. They
eventually let us back into the theater for Sal's trivia game,
auction, and raffle. After that we had to leave and come back in
for the pre-shows and Trixie review. Finally only an hour later
then scheduled, Rocky started. For anyone who has never seen an
MI show, they have to be the most screen accurate cast on the
planet. They did a great job with everything even the stuff they
couldn't control.
Day 2 continued on to day 3 without sleep due to the parties going on
all night and the fact that the hot tub was finally opened.
However on day 3, Sunday, a new friend and I stayed awake and did some
sightseeing ending up at Quarks just in time for the party there.
Sunday was kind of dead at night in the hotel, too many people left
already.
I stayed until Monday and had a blast. The worst part was going
home the last part of my flight was delayed 3 hrs and I was to be at
work by 8 am the next day, I didn't get home until around 3:30
am.
Needless to say I called in late.
